A Little Secret About ‘Adult Coloring Books’

Since I have self published five ‘Coloring Books For Adults’, I will do my best to remain unbiased in the following rant. (Ya, sure I will.  After all, I’m Aunty V …)

Here’s what I want to talk about.

Not all coloring books are created equal.  And there are so many choices out there, it’s hard to decide what to look at next!

When you break it down, there are lots of books out there, but while we would like to believe that each and every coloring book is packed with original and unique, hand drawn illustrations, the truth is, not every coloring book is. For every book that is totally original, I would be willing to bet there are hundreds, if not thousands of other coloring books for adults out there that are “compiled” by someone who buys the rights to ordinary clip art and stock images,  and puts it  together and calls it a ‘coloring book for adults’. The same  images can be found in hundreds of different books, with different names of authors because of this. There’s  a lot of people taking advantage of the ‘coloring craze’ who are churning out these books day after day.

Some people don’t mind that. Some people do.

If you like to find unique images you’ll never find in other books,  look for words like, “hand drawn”, “original”, “unique”…etc. Look on the cover and/or listings for those words before you take the time to ‘look inside the book’ or worse yet, buy the book, and you won’t waste your time and money wading through a bunch of clip art and stock images.

Grannie’s Scarves is live at Amazon!

Finally got my third coloring book for Adults for sale on Amazon!  I’m stoked and working on the next one already!

My own grandmothers scarfs are what motivated me to do this book and I had a lot of fun thinking back to the days of my childhood.  My sister and I would play dress up with them. They felt so good brushing across the skin.  And they felt frilly and pretty draped around our shoulders or tied around our waist.  They really brought out our femininity.

Yes, those were the good old days!

BTW….I’m always looking for subjects for a new book so if anyone thinks of something that would be cool for coloring, anything that has a lot of details to color..feel free to leave me a suggestion in a comment!

Good things

Didn’t know it would be this hard…

The adult coloring book market is flooded right now with new artists like myself.  And that’s a good thing for those who color.

But for us artists?? Not so much.  It’s going to be an uphill battle but I’m ready and willing and am studying and learning all I can so that I can successfully market my books and make a real living.

There’s a lot to it but I believe I can do it.  And that’s all I need.

Tic Toc, Tic Toc….

Ok.. the first two books are done and one is live at Amazon. The second should be live within hours.  I’ve been trying to get the word out about my new coloring book,

A new Journey…

I’m starting out on a new path.  Creating coloring books for Adults.

I can tell you one thing, I enjoy every minute I put into the creation of my new line of coloring books, “Auntie V.’s Coloring books For Adults”.

I have never before imagined doing what I love and making a living at the same time but now, the picture seems to be coming in and I’m beginning to feel blessed.

Like I said, I’m just starting out..but I look forward to a long and happy relationship with the coloring world!
